Summary

• In 2012, Sukabumi starts a productive zakat program called “Bangkit Usaha Mandiri Sukabumi berbasis Masjid” (BUMI).


• The characteristics of BUMI is that it serves the beneficiaries a routine mentoring covers entrepreneurship skills called “Bina Rupiah” and spirituality called “Bina Ruhiyah”. It also targets people who are often go to or have willingnes to go to the mosque as its beneficiaries.


• Most of the beneficiaries are those who have responsibility to make a living for their families. 82.8 percent of BUMI beneficiaries are males, specifically the fathers. Besides, 32 of 43 female beneficiaries are single parents.


• 225 of 250 beneficiaries are in the productive age, while the rest are the elderly people whose age are over 64 years.


• All of the 250 BUMI beneficiaries are those who have married, and even 41 of them have been being single parents.


• Most of BUMI beneficiaries are those with low educational background. However, there are also some well educated people among the BUMI beneficiaries.


• The beneficiaries make a living by doing productive jobs which are varied depend on the skill they have or the jobs they already done before.


• 75.20 percent of beneficiaries have one to four members in the family while only 1.20 percent beneficiaries which have more than seven members in the family.


• More than 50 percent of beneficiaries have a household income ranged between Rp 2 million – Rp 5 million.


• The highest number of household expenditure is ranged between Rp 2.000.001 - Rp 3.000.000. While the lowest number is above Rp 4 million.


• The highest expenditure is the daily consumption which reached 50.09 percent of total household expenditure, while the third lowest expenditures are entertainment, medical consultation and clothes which only reached 0.06 percent, 0.30 percent, and 0.32 percent, respectively.
